Can You Run Ollama on iPhone or Android? What Works

Looking for an app to help with this? Try Ollama Connect.
Quick answer: Not officially. Ollama's supported installs are macOS, Windows, Linux and Docker; there is no official iPhone or Android version. The practical way to "run Ollama on your phone" is to run Ollama on a Mac, PC or home server, make it reachable on your Wi-Fi with
OLLAMA_HOST=0.0.0.0:11434, and connect from a phone client app.
People search "is there Ollama for iPhone" and "run Ollama on Android" a lot. The honest answer is short, but the useful part is what to do instead. This guide explains what Ollama officially supports, what the community offers, and how to get your own models into your pocket.
Is there Ollama for iPhone?
No official one. The Ollama GitHub page lists four ways to install it: macOS, Windows, Linux and Docker. iOS is not one of them.
That does not stop you using Ollama from an iPhone. Ollama is a server. A server is a program that waits for requests from other devices. It runs the model on your computer and answers over a web address, by default http://localhost:11434. Any app that speaks Ollama's API can send it a prompt and show the reply.
So on iPhone the model runs on your computer, and the phone is the screen and keyboard.
Can you run Ollama on Android?
Android is not an official install platform either. The GitHub page does list community integrations for mobile. One entry, "Ollama Android Chat", is described as "One-click Ollama on Android". Others, such as Maid, SwiftChat and Ollama App, are described as mobile or cross-platform clients.
These are community projects, not Ollama releases. Read each project's own page before you install anything, and check who maintains it.
What about Termux?
"Ollama Android Termux" is a common search. Termux is a Linux-style terminal app for Android. Ollama's official documentation does not mention Termux, so we cannot give you supported steps. If you try it, treat it as an experiment rather than a setup to rely on.
Phone on its own vs phone plus computer
| Approach | Where the model runs | Official Ollama support | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ollama on a Mac, PC or Linux server, phone as client | Your computer | Yes | Everyday use with larger models |
| Ollama in Docker on a home server, phone as client | Your server | Yes (official Docker image) | Always-on home setups |
| Community Android projects | The phone | No, community-maintained | Experiments |
| Termux on Android | The phone | Not documented | Experiments |
A phone has far less memory than most desktops. Our guide to context length and memory explains why memory limits what a model can do, and the best small LLMs for a home Mac suggests models that fit modest hardware.
How to use Ollama from your iPhone or Android phone
This is the supported route.
1. Install and test Ollama on your computer
Install Ollama on macOS, Windows or Linux from the official site, pull a model, then check the server answers (macOS or Linux):
curl http://localhost:11434/api/tags
A JSON list of models means the server is running.
2. Let other devices on your Wi-Fi connect
Ollama binds to 127.0.0.1:11434 by default, which means only the same computer can reach it. Change that with OLLAMA_HOST.
On the macOS app:
launchctl setenv OLLAMA_HOST "0.0.0.0:11434"
Then quit and reopen Ollama.
On Linux with systemd, run sudo systemctl edit ollama.service and add:
[Service]
Environment="OLLAMA_HOST=0.0.0.0:11434"
Then reload and restart:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl restart ollama
On Windows, quit Ollama from the taskbar, add OLLAMA_HOST with the value 0.0.0.0:11434 to your user environment variables, then start Ollama again from the Start menu.
The full OLLAMA_HOST network guide covers firewall steps for each system. If the port itself is confusing, see Ollama port 11434 explained.
3. Test from the phone's browser
Find your computer's local IP address, such as 192.168.1.42. On the phone, connected to the same Wi-Fi, open:
http://192.168.1.42:11434/api/tags
If you see JSON, the network path works. If not, our phone connection checklist goes through the usual causes.
4. Connect a phone client
Now point a client app at http://YOUR_COMPUTER_IP:11434. We build one: Ollama Connect is a chat client for Ollama hosts you run yourself. It can search the local network for nearby servers or take an address you type, lets you pick the model for each chat, and keeps chat history on the phone. It does not provide hosted models, so it needs the server from steps 1 to 3. Get it for iPhone or Android, or read more on the Ollama Connect page.
Quick checklist before you blame the app
- Ollama answers
curl http://localhost:11434/api/tagson the computer. -
OLLAMA_HOSTis set to0.0.0.0:11434and Ollama was restarted. - The phone uses the computer's IP, not
localhost. - Phone and computer are on the same Wi-Fi, not guest Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- The computer's firewall allows port 11434 on your private network.
Using your models away from home
Ollama's authentication page says the local API at http://localhost:11434 "does not require authentication". That is fine on a trusted home network. It is not fine on the open internet, so never forward port 11434 on your router.
To reach your computer from outside, use a VPN or an SSH tunnel. Our guide to using Ollama away from home safely explains both. If you would rather keep the server in a container, see Ollama in Docker.
For the bigger picture on privacy and hardware, read how to run an LLM locally and use it from your phone.

Frequently asked questions
- Is there an Ollama app for iPhone?
- Ollama does not list iOS as an install platform; its official downloads are for macOS, Windows, Linux and Docker. On iPhone you use a client app that connects to Ollama running on a computer you control.
- Can I run Ollama on Android?
- Android is not an official Ollama install platform either. The Ollama GitHub page lists community mobile projects, but the supported route is to run Ollama on a computer and chat with it from your phone.
- Can I run Ollama on Android with Termux?
- Ollama's official documentation does not cover Termux, so we cannot give supported steps for it. Treat any Termux method as unofficial and check the project you follow carefully.
- What address do I use on my phone?
- Use your computer's local IP address and port 11434, for example http://192.168.1.42:11434. Do not use localhost, because on a phone that means the phone itself.
- Can I use my phone with Ollama away from home?
- Yes, but do not open port 11434 to the internet, because the local API has no authentication. Use a VPN or an SSH tunnel to reach your home computer instead.
