Leafold privacy notice
Last updated 26 October 2026
This notice covers Leafold (Comic & Book Reader: Leafold), version 1.0 for iOS, from Pocket Grove. Leafold requires no account and contains no advertising, analytics, tracking, crash-reporting or purchase-management SDK. Books and reading data are stored locally. Optional manual WebDAV sync, voice-pack downloads, online discovery and sharing can send information to the destinations described below.
This notice sits alongside our general privacy policy. Where they differ, this notice applies to Leafold. The general policy's descriptions of Pocket Grove account services, hosted cloud synchronisation, advertising, billing and app analytics do not describe this version of Leafold. Leafold's optional sync uses your chosen WebDAV server, as explained below. The data controller is Cong Le, trading as Pocket Grove, in England & Wales.
Your local library and notes
Imported and downloaded books, reading positions, bookmarks, favourites, reading preferences, highlights and notes are stored on your device. You can read books in your library offline. Leafold does not upload your books or reading history to a Pocket Grove library service. If you choose WebDAV sync, it transfers library data to your own selected server as described below.
Importing copies a document into the app's private library and preserves your original file. Deleting a book removes the app's local copy and its saved book metadata; it does not remove your original document or a copy on a WebDAV server. The imported library is excluded from device backup and is removed when you delete the app. Keep your original files: Leafold cannot restore the excluded library from a device backup, and Pocket Grove does not hold a library copy to retrieve or delete.
You can export highlights and notes and choose an app or recipient through the system sharing controls. Text, Markdown and CSV exports include the book title, selected passages and notes. CSV includes highlight colours; JSON contains annotation identifiers, passages, notes, colours, book locations and timestamps. The destination you choose receives the shared file and handles it under its own policies.
Optional manual WebDAV sync
WebDAV sync is optional and runs only when you tap Sync now. You enter an existing HTTPS WebDAV folder and its credentials. Sync uploads and downloads book files and library metadata, including book titles, reading positions, reading preferences, favourites, bookmarks, highlights and notes. For comics, the transferred files are the saved PDF or page images. The connection goes directly to the server you choose; Pocket Grove does not provide or relay this library storage.
The server address and credentials are saved in this device's Keychain. Credentials are sent to your chosen server to authenticate sync. HTTPS protects the connection, but the stored book contents and notes are not end-to-end encrypted by Leafold. Your server operator can access the uploaded files and metadata and receives your IP address and request information. Its access, logging, retention and backup practices apply to that copy of your library.
Sync retains earlier and competing revisions. Deletions are not propagated: removing a book, bookmark or note locally does not erase its earlier synced revisions, and retained data can return during a later sync. Disconnect removes the saved connection credentials from this device; it keeps local books and remote files. To remove server copies and retained revisions, use your server's own controls or contact its operator. Deleting Leafold does not remove data from that server.
Read aloud and optional voice packs
Read aloud uses installed Apple voices or optional downloaded voice models to generate speech on your device. Leafold does not send book text to a speech provider for this processing. The voice samples included with the app are recordings played locally; listening to a bundled preview does not request a model download.
If you choose to download a voice pack, Leafold requests model and supporting files over HTTPS. VOICEVOX Nemo files come from voice-assets.cong-le.com. Kokoro and Supertonic files come from Hugging Face and its download hosts. Those requests identify the selected model files and expose your IP address and ordinary connection information to the hosts; the requests do not include your book text or notes. The hosts' logging and retention practices apply. Downloaded models then process book text locally, and you can remove installed packs in Natural voices.
Selecting voice credits or terms opens the linked external website. Its policies apply to that visit.
Discover, searches and downloads
Discover contacts third-party services to load catalogue shelves, book covers and creator titles, and to download books you select. Opening Discover can make these requests before you choose a book. Searching a catalogue sends your search text to the selected catalogue provider. Cover, book-detail and download requests identify the requested item.
These connections go from your device to the destination service and its image or file hosts. Those services receive your IP address and ordinary connection information when serving requests. Their handling and retention of that information follow their own policies; Leafold does not control their server logs or retention. Native networking services may cache responses on your device.
- Gutendex supplies searchable Project Gutenberg book metadata. Book files and covers may come from Project Gutenberg or the hosts identified in the catalogue. See the Project Gutenberg privacy policy for its own services.
- Internet Archive supplies book catalogues, metadata, covers and selected book downloads. See the Internet Archive terms and privacy policy.
- xkcd and Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal supply creator titles and links through their feeds. Selecting a title opens the creator's website to read it.
Project Gutenberg's policy does not describe the separate Gutendex service.
External websites and Apple services
Comic archive links, including Comic Book Plus and Digital Comic Museum, open external websites. Their policies apply to your visit, as do the policies of creator websites you open. Opening our Privacy or Support pages is a website visit covered by our general privacy policy.
Apple separately handles App Store delivery, ratings and any operating-system diagnostics you choose to share under your Apple settings and the Apple privacy policy. These are separate from an analytics or crash-reporting feature in Leafold.
Support, choices and contact
If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond. You do not need to send a copy of your book to request help. You can remove books in the app or delete the app to remove its local library. This does not remove WebDAV server copies, retained sync revisions or files you have exported or shared. Requests about information held by your WebDAV server, a catalogue, a voice-download host or another external service should be directed to that provider.
For privacy questions or requests concerning information you have sent us, email [email protected] and name Leafold. The rights and contact provisions in our general privacy policy also apply.
